Weekend!!! Flea market days! 🔍 I'm the t Weekend!!! Flea market days!

🔍 I'm the type of person that likes searching for good deals, comparing, spending time looking at options.

Also, I love giving a second life to old things, doing DYI... The flea market is all of it in one! I just love going, even though I haven't been going lately...

💰 Besides my intention to save some money, I want to avoid buying as much newly manufactured goods that I don't really want or need.

If you are like me and want to optimize your budget or at least try to find ways to spend less to save for a larger plan and dream of yours...👇

✍️ I have put together a post about the cost of living in France with some tips on how to save and find good deals.

Do you have any tips you would like to share?

🥮 Who doesn't like a nice Galette des Rois, the 🥮 Who doesn't like a nice Galette des Rois, the French King cake?

The French go on eating after New Year’s Eve.

🍴 As soon as January starts, most countries would make a serious cleansing diet or at least have a more balanced and healthy diet. Not the French!

Do you know what is a King cake in France?

🌟 We eat the galette on January 6 but also all along the month of January!

It is made of puff pastry and “frangipane”, an almond, sugar and butter stuffing mixed with french pastry cream. It is just a delight!

☀ In the South of France, the galette is a brioche with candied fruit.

The best is to buy your galette des Rois at the bakery rather than the supermarket. You can also make an home-made galette des Rois. (recipe on the blog post)

I recommend you to warm it up in the oven for a few minutes before eating it. It is much better!

🍾 It goes perfectly with a glass of fizzy cider or if you prefer a glass of Clairette de Die (French sparkling wine) or even Champagne!

If you want to know more about the Galette des Rois, its origins and have a nice recipe.
See more on the blog.

✨Bonne et heureuse nouvelle année! ⠀ Let's fa ✨Bonne et heureuse nouvelle année!
⠀
Let's fast forward to a good New Year! Focus on the future and make the last difficult year matter.
💥2020 was tough for most of us... but I'm still grateful for what I learnt from 2020:
⠀
⭐Not to take FREEDOM as granted.
⭐To invest in me for a better future and health.
⠀
🌱Let's now make our dreams a reality! As individuals but also as communities.
From little streams, great rivers are formed.
.
Bonne année ! Happy New Year!
.
I dream to create a life where I'm able to work from anywhere, to have geographical freedom.
To be able to live in Brazil and travel back to France when I want and vice versa. 🇨🇵🇧🇷
.
I don't want to be a digital nomad, no. I want to build a life as a digital settler!

Did you know the Christmas socks finds its origin in a legend about Saint Nicolas? A Saint celebrated on December 6, that inspired Coca-Cola when they invented Santa Claus?
.
🧦 Christmas socks are not widely used in France. We tend to put shoes under the Christmas tree for Santa to leave the presents inside for the children.
.
Christmas is full of traditions around the world and also personal ones.
.
🎄I would like to all happy and healthy holidays and end of the year!

✨The Festival of Lights emerged from the popular ✨The Festival of Lights emerged from the popular tradition going back to 8 December 1852, when the Lyonnais placed candles in coloured glasses on their window sills to celebrate the installation of a statue of the Virgin Mary on the Fourvière Hill.
.
To commemorate this event, on the 8 December every year the Lyonnais celebrate the lighting up of their windows and the entire city.
.
👧 As far as I can remember, I have always done it. It is both a tradition and a religious celebration. Many people celebrate it without being Catholics.
.
⚡One year, there was an energy shortage and the lifts of my building didn't work (we lived on the 13th floor!!!). And we still went down to the garage to get the candles and coloured glasses!
.
The tradition was first to put the candles out and go for a walk in the city to listen to live bands.
.
🌟 In 1989, the Light festival was created to illuminate the monuments and promote the city.
.
Nowadays, people come from all over Europe for this 4-day festival. This is a great time to discover Lyon.
.
🌠It is really a magical moment, even though prices get very expensive at this time of the year. Also, restaurants should be booked a few weeks in advance (especially the typical Lyonnais restaurant - Les Bouchons).
.
🦁 This is the first time in 21 years that the Fête des Lumières is cancelled...
.
So sad...
.
✨ Lyonnais will still continue the tradition to light up their windows, at least to bring some Light to this complicated times...
.
🙏 If you live in Lyon, try to light up your windows! It is just so magical!

As expats we became expert with remote connection tools to keep in touch with our loved ones, maybe to work remotely.

The repeated lockdowns and the pandemic we are going through are making us question our life decisions.

💟 Some will take the plunge to make their dreams to live abroad come true (if not already done), others may move city or go to the countryside to have a better quality of life.

I used these techniques twice to find a job in the UK, also in Brazil (worked until the visa issue.. you'll know more in the BLOG post).

🍇 Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! The Beaujo 🍇 Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrivé! The Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!
.
Today, 3rd Thursday of Novermber is the day to celebrate new French wine, the Beaujolais, fresh from the harvest.
.
🍷Unlike other French wines, it is drunk immediately after harvesting (barrels are rolled through the streets to shops), it has a cheerful reputation (it's cheap!) and it not not perceived as snob (it is marketed to the masses).
.
🚜The Beaujolais nouveau keeps the local economy going. So let's try to buy Beaujolais Nouveau anyhow today, maybe at the supermarket or online!
.
The Beaujolais is produced in the Beaujolais region, about 50 kilometers north of Lyon. And unlike the Champagne vineyard or producers in Burgundy and Bordeaux, it is grown and harvested by around 400 small farmers, often working in collectives.
.
It is generally served chilled to bring out the fresh flavours and is often sold with gaudy packaging on its labels.
.
🎈 Happy Beaujolais Nouveau!
.
No wine degustation, wine festivals and parties today... but let's cheer anyway and support our Beaujolais wine producers!
